Statement of Faith
We are Christians, in the most basic sense…we are followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, who died and rose from the dead to pay for our sins - the same Jesus told about in the Bible, the same Jesus who lives and works in us today. Any of us would be happy to tell you our personal stories of how Jesus has changed our lives. Following is a Statement of Faith to which all members of the ACCP profess to agree.
Our Statement of Faith
- We believe in the one and only True and Living God revealed in the Christian Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as Father, Son (or Word) and Holy Spirit. The Father is of none either begotten or proceeding. The Son is eternally begotten of the Father, and the Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. These three are one in essence, power and eternity, yet three in persons; each fully divine and possessing all the divine perfections and are to be distinguished by their relations with the Godhead. This God is holy, all-powerful, all-knowing, all wise, completely sovereign, just, good, loving, merciful, righteous, and compassionate.
- We believe in the incarnation of God the Son in the person of Jesus Christ, who was conceived of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary, thus uniting forever in one person the fullness of his deity with humanity, becoming the God-man. He lived a perfect and sinless life, keeping the law on our behalf, and died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. He was buried and rose again bodily from the dead on the third day. He ascended to the right hand of God the Father where he sits to make intercession for his people until he shall come again, visibly and bodily, to the earth to claim his own and judge the world in righteousness.
- We believe in the Church as the new covenant community commissioned by Christ and indwelt and empowered by the Holy Spirit with the various spiritual gifts which he dispenses according to his sovereign will for the purpose of carrying on Christ’s redemptive mission in the world.
- We believe in the necessity of the new birth for entering the Church (Jn. 3:1-8) and that its distinguishing marks are repentance from sin and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for justification before God. As believers we are forgiven for our sins, and freed from God’s judgment (Rom. 1:17; 5:1-2; 8:1-2; 1Jn. 1:9).
- We believe that children are a heritage from the Lord and the fruit of the womb is a blessing from his hands. (Ps. 127:3)
- We believe that significant life, both physical and spiritual, begins at the moment of conception (Ps. 139:13; Matt. 10:31; Luke 1:26-56) and that such life is worthy of protection, insofar as we are humanly capable. (Ex. 21:22-23; Ex. 1:15-20; Lev. 19:16b; Mark 3:1-5; Jn. 9:1-3) We are thankful for mankind’s God-given ability to administer life-saving physical assistance in the spirit of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37).
